it’s a start

March 18, 2008

Well, my first piece as a producer for MediaStorm launched today: Reuters Bearing Witness, Five Years of the Iraq War.

My part in the project took more than eleven weeks of production, combing through more than 20 hours of videotapes of interviews with Reuters journalists, photographers, editors, producers and staff plus video footage captured from Reuters TV cameramen in Iraq. There were also 3,600 still images, the best of the best that Reuters photographers captured during the 5 year Iraq War, selected in a wide edit by Reuters’ talented executive team of Ayperi Ecer and Jassim Ahmad.

The maps and the revolutionary timeline, design and dev were handled by MediaStorm designer Tim Klimowitz, who is also an awesome Guitar Hero playa.

I only wish it was a project about a happier occasion.

I’m looking forward to your thoughts.

You’ll need a fast connection.

    Hey Bob,

This is some great and important work. I can only imagine how intense it must have been to edit through all this heavy material for weeks on end.

Kudos to you and the team for pulling together history into a sophisticated format like this that we can all digest.

  2. “More then 11 weeks of production…”

It shows. The introductions, profiles and time line- all of it. The seamless integration of video, stills and audio. This is what “multimedia” can be. Glad that Reuters was on board so you and mediastorm could present the material in new and richer ways.

So very very sad and pained that we mark this 5th anniversary.

    Hey Bob, Amazing work…

I finally got a chance to dig into this huge project and give it the attention it deserves. from a tech standpoint the integration of everything is amazing. The timeline is so seamless and compelling. The project is really well done.

from a subject matter standpoint, it’s obviously important to examine, but I think it really opens some eyes to the ongoing tragedy that the Iraqis face everyday. I am but a young naive american so obviously I don’t know a whole lot about the reality of this war, I have only what the courageous journalists are able to capture to shape my view; to present a story about them and from their perspective is really great.

I can imagine it was a terribly sobering 11 weeks and I don’t envy your task, I do however, applaud your efforts. — kendrick
